1994

The Eleventh Street Metromover station opens, a key part of Miami's public transit system. The city also hosts the First Summit of the Americas, an international conference bringing together leaders from across the Western Hemisphere.

Willy Gort is elected as mayor, later succeeded by Joe Carollo. Meanwhile, Alex Penelas becomes mayor of Miami-Dade County.
